Château Cantemerle - 5. Grand Cru Classé Haut Médoc
Schon 1145 wurde das Château Cantemerle urkundlich erwähnt. Von 1592 bis ins späte 19. Jahrhundert war das Château im Besitz der Familie Villeneuve-Durfort. Aufgrund der Weltausstellung 1855 wurden die Weinhändler von Bordeaux aufgefordert, alle Weingüter von Bordeaux zu klassifizieren. Da das Château Cantemerle seine Geschäfte zu dieser Zeit nur mit holländischen Weinhändlern machte, fehlte es in dieser Klassifikation. Dank der damaligen Eigentümerin Caroline de Villeneuve-Durfort wurde das Weingut noch im gleichen Jahr als Cinquième Grand Cru klassifiziert. 1892 wurde das Château Cantemerle schließlich an die Familie Dubos verkauft. Heute steht das Château Cantemerle im Besitz einer französischen Versicherungsgesellschaft. Diese führte nach dem Erwerb des Châteaus Renovierungen der Weinkeller durch und legte die Weinberge neu an. Diese Umstrukturierungen und eine ausgewogene Kombination aus Tradition und modernen Technologien führten zu der heute einzigartigen Qualität der Weine. Bekannt sind die Weine des Château Cantemerles für ihre Besonderheit, dass sie zu den wenigen Weinen weltweit gehören, die nicht nur gut altern können, sondern deren Geschmack sich über Jahrzehnte hinweg noch verfeinert.
